Artist:Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin (USA) a Download:SSLYBY - Another Satellite [mp3] Listen: a 1- We chose Another Satellite because we couldn't pull of the Squeeze song. And the "Mayor of Simpleton" bass line was too hard to figure out. Didn't know this song in the 80's, but I can imagine my dad listening to it if he liked cool music.
2- Any song from the last Phoenix record. 3- Pete and the Pirates (Pete is Jonathan (our bass player's) cousin)
Artist:Saint Bernadette (USA) a Download:Saint Bernardette - Owner Things [mp3] Listen: a 1- This mash up (Yes 'Owner of a Lonely Heart' and Howard Jones 'Things Can Only Get Better') is two self-empowerment songs. I think we were just trying to get ourselves pumped up. 2- Toxic by Britney spears 3- Aphex Twin : )
Artist:Dragonette (UK) a Download:Dragonette - Sharp Dressed Man [mp3] Listen: a 1- We love zz top.. w chose to do this song for the this compilation because we were pretty sure no one else would be
doing it, and we could finally do something cool with this song that we have liked for so long. 2- Maybe Beck or something off
Britney Spears' Blackout record. 3- Dolly Parton, doing one of the new songs we're working on right now.
Artist: Sidechains (Spain) a Download:Sidechains - Into The Groove [mp3] Listen: 1- I remember when I was a kid I saw that 80's movie "Desperately Seeking Susan" and I felt In love with Madonna, So I could say she was my first love (not corresponded but anyway), I felt happy... 2- A spanish song that hurted the ears of the whole world: MACARENA. I would revenge with some distorted drum'n bass, glitching that stupid vocals. 3- Mike Patton. Doing all the parts of the song with vocals. :
Artist:Pomomofo (Australia) a Download:Pomomofo - White Horse [mp3] Listen: a 1- We chose 'Ride the White Horse' because it reminds us of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. 2- 'Fuck the Google' by Beaufort. Great track and very pertinent to the times methinks. 3- Michael Buble?
Artist:Moulinex (Portugal) a Download:Moulinex feat Iris Maria - Come On Closer [mp3] Listen: a 1- It's one of the best italo songs ever. Roberto Ferrante recorded this when he was 18 with a really minimum studio (only a synthesizer and a drum machine, all played by hand without a sequencer!).. For vocals he hired a soldier (!) from the NATO base in Napoli... 2- One More Time by Daft Punk, probably. 3- An Herbie Hancock/Moroder collaboration, with Grace Jones singing.
Artist:The Paper Scissors (Australia) a Download:The Paper Scissors - I Can't Go Fot That (no can do) [mp3] Listen: 1- We all have respect for the art of a great pop song. We were discussing which song to cover and we turned on the radio and 'I can't go for that' came on, so we thought it was meant to be. 2- Maybe 'He Can Only Hold Her' By Amy Winehouse. 3- I would love to hear The Budos band do a cover of one of our tunes.
Hall & Oates - I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) (1981)
Artist:Northern Portrait (Denmark) a Download:Norhtern Portrait - Some People[mp3] Listen: a 1- The Cliff Richard song that we’ve chosen is in it’s orignal form recorded in quite a boring fashion (I beg your pardon, sir Cliff), and seems very open to interpretations, which was very nice. 2- We could do a cover of the Swedish group Days’ beautiful track ’Downhill’ 3- Out of economic reasons perhaps Madonna or Robbie Williams. Unfortunately my favourite singer Frank Sinatra is out of the question. a
Artist:Hello Tokyo (USA) a Download:Hello Tokyo - Girls [mp3] Listen: a 1- 1st time I heard the song was in a school bus. the bus driver was cranking 'license to ill' for a bunch of catholic school kids...hearing the word GIRLS shouted over and over and over seemed so scandalous! I felt like a sinner and kinda liked it :) 2- I'd do "Song Cry" from the Blueprint Album of Jay-z's but mix it with Allure and make it a monster smash! 3- Squarepusher or Girl Talk.
Artist:Overthrill (Germany) a Download:Overthrill - Burn Rubber On Me [mp3] Listen: a 1- -We simply love this song, we love the video and we love The Gap Band. Altough we probably didn't hear "Burn Rubber On Me" in the radio in 1980 at least not conciously that is. 2- Ehm... Nostradamus is not a member of Overthrill... it's really hard to predict which tunes we will still love in 20 years. 3- Daft Punk, period.
Artist:The Cloud Room (USA) a Download:.The Cloud Room - Blue Monday [mp3] Listen: a 1- It came down to "Blue Monday" or "Fall On Me" by R.E.M., but this looked more challenging. The original is great but we wanted to entice the basic beauty of the song out of all the 80s synthesized madness.. 2- "Do You Realize?" by the Flaming Lips, "99 Problems" by Jay-Z or "Crazy In Love" by Beyoncé. 3- um, Leonard Cohen or Philip Glass or Beyoncé...or, hell, all three.
Artist:Julian Nation (Australia) a Download:Julian Nation - Linda Linda [mp3] Listen: a 1- Have you seen the film Linda Linda Linda where the Korean exchange student has to learn how to sing Linda Linda in three days to perform it at the school cultural festival? It's my favourite film so covering it was just like acting out favourite scenes in my bedroom. 2- Do The Knifefight by the Unicorns 3- The Tough Alliance!!!!!
Artist:RAC (USA) & Karl Kling from The Pragmatic (USA) a Download:RAC feat. Karl Kling - Take On Me [mp3] Listen: a 1- I chose this song because it is by far the catchiest song of the 80's. I also chose it because it's a much faster tempo that I'm used to working with, so in a way it's new challenge. 2- Right now I'm tempted to say Katy Perry's single "I kissed a girl", but it hasn't been around enough for me to be sure. 3- Probably Os Mutantes.
Artist:South Central (UK) a Download:South Central - Kerosene [mp3] Listen: a 1- No memories as such. Big Black were one of the early Punk/new Wave acts to mix electronic beats with Guitars and they had a cool DIY ethic, so it was a logical or natural choice for us. 2- Probably something by the Fall maybe Sparta FC. 3- Kraftwerk doing one of our songs that would be the business.
Artist: Electric Soft Parade(USA) a Download: Electric Soft Parade - Rent[mp3] Listen: a 1- All of their stuff holds memories for us - they were one of the first groups our parents played us - but Jealousy in particular says many things about the suspicion and melancholy of modern love 2-I would have to say one of my own songs. Can't say which, but 20 years hindsight would certainly give me a new angle, whatever the material. 3- Robert Wyatt, Teenage Fanclub and Spiritualized.
