Hello ladies and gentlemen, girls and boys, and all other life forms. Welcome onboard this RWD2 flight to the sounds of yesteryear. On behalf of Captain Marc and the crew of Buffetlibre, it is our pleasure to accompany you today on this journey in space and time which will rewind you back to the sounds of your past. The cabin crew is here to ensure you have an enjoyable flight to your chosen destination, but before taking off, please pay attention to the safety procedures: For your comfort and safety, we ask all passengers to remain in dance position at all times, in case of unexpected beats. All portable electronic devices such as walkmans, ghetto-blasters, scientific calculators, Spectrum 48K and vibrators must be turned ON during take off and landing. Mobile telephones must not be used at any time- they didn’t exist in the eighties, remember? Passengers are reminded that this is a permissive flight, which means that smoking, alcoholic beverages, hyperglycemic candies, junk food and dressing to kill are permitted at all times anywhere in the aircraft (you may also download tracks at work, where the former may or may not be permitted- you choose). There are no seat-belts, no tables to be kept upright, no emergency exit and no oxygen masks. To fly high all you need is your mind and soul. But remember: a bad trip in the past is a brain less in the future! We hope you have a pleasant flight back to your childhood sounds. So fasten your trainers, grab your favourite toy and a slush-puppie, and prepare for take-off. This is Rewind2. |

Why have you chosen this journey back in time in particular?
Because ELO didn't do that many songs in the 80's - and this one is perfect!
1
Nostalgia or tribute?
Definitely tribute - I didn't even know this song until 3 years ago when I rekindled my ELO flame.

Why have you chosen this journey back in time in particular?
We actually just like the song, none of us remember it from back in the 80s... Plus the video is to die for.

Nostalgia or tribute?
Definitely a tribute.

Why have you chosen this journey back in time in particular?
What attracted us was the combination of the innocence of the playground rhyme pop style with the sulky thatcher-era vocal delivery. Also it seemed fun to do a cover version of a song that was ALREADY a cover version of a 60's song. A cover of a cover."

Why have you chosen this journey back in time in particular?
Because we thing that the original recording has aged in a way in which the song hasn't. We wanted to do a recording of it which gives the song the respect it deserves.

Why have you chosen this journey back in time in particular?
Because she is so badass! and i feel like her music is timeless along with her crazy style. and also "girls just want to have fun" was josh's cell phone ring for some time and thats where the idea came to do that song.

About the rewinded:
Queen were widely criticised in the 1980s for the fact that they broke a United Nations cultural boycott by performing a series of shows at Sun City in 1984, a homeland of (then) apartheid South Africa. Queen was placed on a United Nations list of blacklisted artists and widely criticised in magazines.

Why have you chosen this journey back in time in particular?
I really don't know, it's been a catchy track for such a long time and all the re-works I've heard of it were all just too commercial and meaningless...

Tribute I guess. I heard this song for the first time about a year ago.

How do you think a cover of Disappear Here will sound in 20 years time?
I just hope that it won't be a sad boy/girl with a guitar playing a down-tempo version of it.

Why have you chosen this journey back in time in particular?
This tune was a big hit, but there are no drums on it, which is kind of crazy, considering that's a pretty central element of most modern pop music. It still somehow remains pretty striking and original, stark and haunting.

Why have you chosen this journey back in time in particular?
We wanted to record "take my breath away" or "take on me", but then we listened to "neverending story" in the tour bus and fell (again) in love with it ;)

Why have you chosen this journey back in time in particular?
We wanted to go back to 1982 because everyone knows this was the climax of Western Civilization. Since then, it's been a steady decline into anarchy. 1982 was as Utopian as 1984 was Draconian.

Why have you chosen this journey back in time in particular?
Simplicity. Emotion. We're all continually tempted to edit & tweak & cut/paste & be tricky. But in a way this track opens up a different space, different possibilities... all focussed around the simplicity of the melody and lyric and vocal.

Why have you chosen this journey back in time in particular?
I was really into 80s hair metal in elementary school, it was my rebellion against classical violin. I thought it would be fun to transform a three-chord power-ballad into something a little more subtle & harmonically interesting.

Why have you chosen this journey back in time in particular?
Because "your woman" is the BEST one hit wonder ever made and, to our knowledge, the only pop song to mention marxism in its lyrics, which cant be a bad thing. In a word, timeless

Why have you chosen this journey back in time in particular?
Rosie: Dave loves the 70's, I love the 80's, Ben looks like he just stepped out of the 90's and Mailee loves NOW music We had real problems choosing! My friend Duncan Greive suggested Sex You Up, and we laughed.

Why have you chosen this journey back in time in particular?
My art teacher gave me a tape of 70's punk when I was 15. It totally changed and shaped my musical taste. This song was the first track on it, so this is dedicated to her.

We all loved and the Pet Shop Boys don't seem to have had much of a revisit by other bands. When we started listening to the song a lot it sounded more and more genius every time. Its a timeless classic.
